The Zell am See-Kaprun region offers a wealth of opportunities for ski touring amidst a breathtaking alpine landscape. Here are some of the popular ski touring areas and routes in the area:

  1. Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn: The Maiskogel in Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier area offer various ski touring options for different levels of difficulty. There are ski tours from the Kitzsteinhorn glacier with great views of the surrounding peaks.

  2. Schmittenhöhe: The Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See also offers opportunities for ski tourers. There are routes that lead through the snowy landscape and offer great views of the surrounding mountains.

Hochsonnbergalm: This is a popular area for ski touring, offering a mix of gentle slopes and more challenging routes. The Hochsonnbergalm is located between Zell am See and Kaprun.

Snow Peak and High Dock: These peaks offer challenging ski tours for experienced ski tourers with wonderful views of the surrounding mountain landscape.

Whether you are new to ski touring or an experienced ski tourer: one Slope tour is a good start to the season and optimal training in between. In Thumersbach, opposite Zell am See, an entire mountain is reserved just for ski tourers. The Ronachkopf offers a prepared ascent track and a worthwhile descent. This tour is 2,1 kilometers long in total and, with an altitude difference of almost 500 meters, is also easy for beginners to the sport. Once at the top, the reward awaits: a wonderful view of Lake Zell and a stop at the cozy Enzianhütte before the descent.

There are also designated ones in the high alpine surroundings of the Kitzsteinhorn Ski touring routes: The “Snow Queen” and the “Icebreaker” are two ski tours that can be accessed from mid-October - perfect for all ski tourers who are looking forward to an early start to the season in autumn. Both tours start at Langwiedboden and offer an optimal training effect due to the altitude. The “Snow Queen” leads 474 meters up to the Alpincenter. On the longer “icebreaker” you climb approx. 900 meters in altitude to the top station of the Maurer lift. After a short break in the Alpine Center, the descent follows on groomed slopes or off-road (only with avalanche safety equipment!).

Get very close to winter nature. Go your own way away from groomed slopes. Enjoy the silence and the view: ski tours in the alpine surroundings of Zell am See-Kaprun have a very special fascination. Here you can conquer the mountains with your own muscle power and at your own pace. The region offers numerous slope tours that are ideal for preparation and training. At the same time, winter sports enthusiasts will find the most beautiful opportunities for ski tours off the slopes in untouched terrain on the Pinzgauer Grasberge and in the Hohe Tauern. Certified mountain guides will be happy to accompany you here and show you powder snow and firn classics.
